And now, I'd like to express my outrage, not simply at Sarah Palin being nominated, but at the American public's acceptance of this.
I would like to applaud the Today Show for airing this segment:
To begin, I'd like to start with the least credible and somewhat insulting bits of evidence against this woman. A rumor is circulating online, and was mentioned in the Alaska Daily News, that Palin's baby Trig may not be hers. The speculation is that Trig is actually her granddaughter, in other words, Bristol's child. While I find this very interesting and amusing, in relation to her stance on abstinence-only education, I admit there is no concrete proof. She did publicly state that she would not allow her daughter an abortion even if raped. This woman clearly does not represent women's rights on any level. But, either way, Trig's birth shows irresponsibility on the part of Governor Palin. The circumstances surrounding his birth are evidence that she is certainly not capable of making mature, responsible decisions. This is all the more interesting, considering legislation she supports could make her decisions around her pregnancy rather incrinimating. This legislation makes women choosing to give birth in their homes into neglectful criminals, and certainly limits a woman's right to make choices about her own body and well-being. Surprise, surprise.
As for further clamor about Palin, we have also heard it stated that she is irresponsible in accepting the Vice Presidential nomination when she has a special needs child at home. I hope I am repeating statements you have already heard when I say this is anti-feminist bullshit. No one would question her husband's manhood or integrity in the same situation.
HOWEVER, this does not align Sarah Palin with any feminist ideals. The idea that anyone could support both her and Hilary Clinton is ridiculous.
